JD 420 Crawler Shuttle shift shaft

I am taking my 420 JD crawler apart to repair the clutch and brake pedals. The machine sat for 20 years or so up in the woods. The pedals were locked right up tight. No brakes or clutch. Pulled the engine out and the tunnel between the tranny and clutch was full of nuts and leaves. Vacuumed out all that I could but could not get the pedals free. So I decided to remove the center out of the machine but big problem. There is a shaft inside of a shaft that needs to be pulled out an inch or so to slide the housing apart to get the linkage off inside. No room with all of the loader frame in place. Has anyone had to do this before or am I really in for a battle?I thought of making up a small puller to use and heat from the torch. Ahhhh nothings easy !
